Jim McIntyre graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in journalism. He worked for several years as a television news reporter, then returned to the University to do graduate work in American literature. After completing the MA and PhD degrees, he taught at a small college in Wisconsin before returning to Austin, where he now makes his home.
Though he has studied briefly with Daniel Greene, Albert Handell, and Sherrie McGraw, he is essentially a self-taught artist. Most of what he has learned about art has been from studying the work of great artists, from his association with talented local artists, and from trial and error. He prefers working from life whenever possible, and finds the Texas Hill Country an ideal location for plein air painting.
Since the early 1980's, he has been conducting a life-drawing open studio for local artists. He believes strongly in the old adage that "learning to draw is learning to see." |
